Govt Accused Of Failing To Learn From Past Mistakes Over Trauma Proposal

A former Clare Chair of the HSE’s Regional Health Forum West is accusing the Government of failing to learn from past mistakes.

It’s after the cabinet approved a reform of the country’s major trauma system, which would result in two major trauma centres being established in Dublin and Cork, if implemented.

The centres would be supported by a number of other units for less severe injuries, while Galway would have a unit with specialised services, but no neurosurgical facilities.

Cathaoirleach of Clare County Council, Councillor Tom McNamara has raised concerns over the impact on people in rural areas and says the move echoes decisions made in the past.
