Clare And Tipperary Share The Spoils In An Action Packed NFL Clash

Clare and Tipperary shared the spoils in a heated National Football League Division Two encounter in Cusack Park.

Both sides ended the game with 14 men as they played out an 0-11 apiece draw.

The Premier led by 0-7 to 0-5 at half time in a game played in wintry conditions, while they also lost All Star forward Michael Quinlivan to injury in that opening period.

The visitors to Ennis raced into a 0-5 to 0-1 lead after 15 mins with Conor Sweeney their scorer in chief.

Gary Brennan and Keelan Sexton both saw goal chances go over the bar, before Tipp struck back with two of their own.

Sexton and Ciaran Russell then landed fine scores to ensure just two seperated them as they headed for the dressing room.

Two more Banner points from Pearse Lillis and Jamie Malone levelled the game before the big flashpoint arrived.

Jamie Malone was shown a straight red card after colliding with the Tipperary coach Shane Stapleton close to the sideline as he tried to prevent his momentum from carrying him into the stand.

David Tubridy was then issued with a black card for remonstrating with the officials in the aftermath of the incident.

Stapleton was subsequently taken to hospital after hitting his head on the ground in the incident.

Tipperary then hit the next two scores to go 0-9 to 0-7 clear before Cleary and Sweeney swapped points to leave Liam Kearn’s men two ahead with 12 minutes to play.

Kieran Malone pulled it back to a one point game before Pearse Lillis landed a fabulous score from distance to make 0-10 each in the 63rd minute.

Another free for the Premier nudged them back in front before Keelan Sexton sent over a brilliant long range free to tie it up once more.

A frantic finish saw Josh Keane sent off for a second yellow card while Cleary also saw black late on.

Cian O’Dea was Clare’s hero in the dying moments with a brilliant diving block to prevent what looked like a certain Tipperary point.

The Banner had chances to win the game but just couldn’t find the range, with the sides ended deadlocked on 0-11 each.

It leaves Clare with two points from the opening three games with a trip to take on Down in Newry to come in two weeks time.

Elsewhere in Division Two, Down had an 0-11 to 0-7 win over Roscommon while Cork comfortably beat Louth 2-11 to 0-10.
