There’s been a spike in the level of overcrowding at the region’s main hospital today.
The latest figures from the INMO show 66 patients were left waiting for beds at University Hospital Limerick today, 41 of those in the emergency department.
The overall figure is two dozen more than the next busiest facility and comes on a day when over 500 patients have been left waiting on trolleys.

The INMO has said the national rise was predictable following the bank holiday and shows that hospitals are still in crisis.
The union is calling on the HSE to continue the curtailment of service to ensure trolley numbers don’t escalate again, and Health Minister Simon Harris says measures announced last week are having some benefit.
