Construction is due to get underway in the coming fortnight on the million euro Shannon Town Park.
Clare’s first purpose-built town has a population of around 10,000 people and one of the challenges facing officials since it was given town status in the 80’s has been to create a focal point.
It’s hoped the development of a town park, which includes footpaths, a cycle track, an adventure play area and a bandstand and performance area will aid with that.
Speaking to Clare FM’s Morning Focus at a special broadcast from Shannon, Cathaoirleach of the Municipal District, Sinn Fein Councillor Mike McKee says it will make a huge difference to the local community.
