Pope Francis Could Be Set To Visit West Of Ireland

Pope Francis could be set to visit the West of Ireland as part of his two day trip here this summer.

The Irish Independent reports that the Pontiff may fly into Ireland West airport in Knock on Saturday August 25th, raising the possibility of a mass at the Marian Shrine.

Hopes had been expressed that he would follow in the footsteps of Pope John Paul the Second, who flew into Shannon as part of his trip to the country in 1979.

It’s thought up to 650 thousand people will want to see Pope Francis in the Phoenix Park in Dublin the following day – with organisers concerned about getting them in and out safely.

He’s attending an event at the World Meeting of Families in Croke Park and there’s also speculation he’ll visit Mountjoy Prison and the Capuchin Day Centre.
