50 On Trolleys At University Hospital Limerick Today

There’s been a spike in the level of overcrowding at the region’s main hospital today.

The latest figures from the INMO shows 50 people were left waiting for beds at University Hospital Limerick this morning, 27 of those in the emergency department.

It’s the highest level of overcrowding at any hospital in the country and is 14 more than the next busiest facility.

It comes as the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation holds its annual conference today, which will call for action on the crisis.

The union says there has been a 19% rise in overcrowding nationally between January and April with 42,819 waiting on trolleys, which INMO spokesperson Phil Ni Sheaghdha has described as record levels.
