There will be no extension to the drone beach patrol services on Clare’s beach in the foreseeable future.
The technology was piloted in Spanish Point this time last year – the first of its kind in Ireland – and was used to bolster services already provided by lifeguards.
Despite a successful first summer in operation, though, it doesn’t look like it will be extended to beaches elsewhere in the county this time around.

Clare’s Water Safety Officer Clare McGrath says it’s proving too costly to rollout widely but that it should be back at Spanish Point for at least some of this season.
