Temperatures reached 31 degrees at Shannon Airport yesterday, and it’s expected to be as warm, if not warmer today.
Clare County Council had to grit the road in parts of the county last night, after road temperatures reached over 35 degrees, leading to melting tarmac, and dangerous driving conditions.
The local authority is reminding road users to be careful of surfaces becoming slick in the hot conditions, particularly on minor roads, and to exercise caution when breaking.
Meanwhile, there’s officially a drought in Ireland.
The warm spell offically becomes a heatwave today, once temperatures rise over 25 degrees.
Rain at the start of last week has left the northwest in a better position than the rest of the country, with Leinster the worst affected.
