Clare’s newly appointed Crime Prevention Officer is urging young men to use their brain and not their fists.
Garda figures show the highest level of assaults in almost a decade were reported last year, with the vast majority of those carried out by men aged between 18 and 34.
Sergeant Tríona O’Rourke takes over as Crime Prevention Officer from Sergeant Joe Downey who’s retiring, and says the peak time for these assaults is in the early hours of Sunday morning and in public places.
