Chaos Predicted At Region’s Main Hospital This Winter

It’s feared that there will be chaos the region’s main hospital this winter if measures aren’t urgently taken to address the trolley crisis.

It comes as trolley numbers at University Hospital Limerick have hit a record high for the month of July.

The latest trolleywatch analysis from the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation shows almost 900 patients were left waiting for beds at the Dooradoyle facility last month, a 35% increase on July of last year.

While, today, 42 patients are waiting to be admitted at the hospital, the highest number of any hospital in the country.

Barefield Independent Councillor Ann Norton, who is a member of the HSE’s Regional Health Forum West, has been telling Clare FM’s Fiona Cahill that the trolley crisis could spiral out of control in the coming months:
