Visitor Restrictions In Place At UHL As Numbers Requiring Isolation Spike

Strict visitor restrictions have been put in place at the region’s main hospital.

Trolley numbers have dropped significantly at University Hospital Limerick today, but the number of at-risk patients requiring isolation is on the rise.

Infection control measures have been put in place at the Dooradoyle facility, and hospital management say every effort is being made to reduce the risk to vulnerable patients.

Until further notice, only one visitor per patient is allowed during visiting hours, while there’s a strict ban on children coming in to visit.

Parents visiting children are unaffected by the restrictions however, but are advised not to bring the patient’s siblings with them.

Management say the restrictions are regrettable for patients and their loved ones, but have been deemed necessary in the interests of patient care.

There has been a high level of overcrowding there in recent days with trolley numbers rising to 60 yesterday.

But that number dropped to 23 this morning, which is well below the busiest hospital in the country – University Hospital Galway – where 44 people are seeking admission today.
