Massive Increase In Domestic Violance Calls ‘Disappointing But Not Surprising’

A former Clare Senator who witnessed domestic violence in his home as a child says it’s disappointing but not surprising to see the number of reports of these crimes rise.

Figures released by the National Crime Victims Helpline reveal a 150% increase in calls relating to domestic violence last year.

Just under 5 thousand people contacted the service in 2017, a 10 per cent rise on the previous year, while the number of people contacting due to rape or sexual assault also doubled.
