Killaloe Tops Rental Index In Clare

New figures show that the pace of growth in rental prices in parts of Clare is significantly higher than the county average.

While recent figures show that average rents grew by 41 euro last year, in some areas people are paying 60 euro more.

The Residential Tenancies Board first published statistics at a county level – they showed rental costs in Clare are at their highest in a decade.

Now, the same organisation has published details relating to some towns, showing even more expensive rents in some areas.

In Killaloe, typical rents stand at 712 euro, the highest level in Clare, with rents in Newmarket-on-Fergus and in Shannon standing at 684 and 680 euro respectively.

In each of those areas, the rate of rental growth is also higher than the national figure, with renters in Newmarket paying almost 60 euro more, on average, than this time last year.

In Ennis, rents have increased by 40 euro to 637 euro, while typical rental costs in Kilrush are up by 21 euro to 467 euro.

In light of the RTB’s publication, Clare Fine Gael TD Joe Carey suggested that parts of Clare should be designated as rent pressure zones in a bid to curb rising rents.
