It’s hoped a new ALDI store opening in Killaloe this week will not displace the existing businesses in the town.
The German discount supermarket is opening its fourth Clare store there – its first in the east of the county.
The project was given the green light by An Bord Pleanála a year ago, after objections were lodged with Clare County Council by locals who were concerned about the impact on existing businesses.

Local Fianna Fáil Councillor Tony O’Brien says that concern is still there but the hope is that the opposite effect will be seen:
