Still No Timeline For Completion Of Social Housing Review

There’s still no timeline on when a review of income threshold limits for social housing will be complete.

Earlier this month, a meeting of the Council Committee which deals with housing heard concerns that the limits here were too low, and that they created an effective ‘poverty trap’ whereby some people are earning too much to qualify for social housing, but not enough to qualify for a mortgage.

Currently, a couple with two children is not eligible for social housing here if their net income stands at over €27,500 euro a year.

Junior Minister David Stanton has told the Seanad that a review is ongoing, but it seems there’s no finishing date in sight.
