Broad Welcome After VAT Hike On Health Supplements Deferred

The decision to defer a tax hike on health supplements has received a broad welcome in Clare.

A 23% tax rate on vitamins and food supplements was to be brought in on Friday, but Revenue officials have decided to delay the move until November to allow for further reviews.

Fears had been expressed that up to 100 jobs in Clare could be at risk, due to the proposed increase, which could have resulted in higher prices for customers.

Fergal McNamara of Ennis Health Store has been telling Clare FM’s Fiona Cahill that this announcement is welcome, but he insists that work is now needed to ensure that the higher VAT rate is stamped out for good:
