Briefing Event To Be Held In Lahinch Ahead Of Irish Open

Members of the public are invited to a briefing event in Lahinch this weekend, ahead of the Irish Open coming to the North Clare village in July.

Gardaí, The European Tour and Clare County Council are among those who will be on hand to hear people’s concerns and issue assurances on everything from traffic to parking.

From July 3rd to 7th, the eyes of the sporting world will be on Lahinch when the most prestigious event in the Irish golfing calendar is held there.

The Dubai Duty Free Irish Open will bring major names to the Banner County – the latest of those to be announced is Graeme McDowell, following the likes of Padraig Harrington, Shane Lowry, Danny Willett and Tommy Fleetwood.

They’ll attract major crowds, and as a result congestion too, but Sunday’s event is designed to answer the public’s questions in relation to it.

Stakeholders including the Gardaí, the HSE, The European Tour, Clare County Council and Fáilte Ireland will come together at the Lahinch Coast Hotel to brief members of the public on the plans.

General Manager of Lahinch Golf Club Paddy Keane says the focus now is on preparation.

Sunday’s briefing also gives those living locally, or those who will be travelling to Lahinch to soak up the atmosphere, an idea of traffic restrictions that will be in place.

Adrian Kelly, the Council’s nominated liaison for the hosting of the event, has outlined their plans.

Sunday’s briefing event takes place in the Lahinch Coast Hotel from noon until 4pm.
