The Environmental Protection Agency says water quality at 12 bathing areas in Clare remains extremely high.
Tests carried out at Ballyalla, Ballycuggeran, Bishopsqurter, Cappagh Pier, Fanore, Kilkee, Lahinch, Mountshannon, Spanish Point, White Strand – Doonbeg and White Strand – Miltown Malbay all once again returned excellent results.
While Seafield Quilty, which was classified for the first time in 2018 was also classified as excellent.
5 well-known bathing places in Ireland have poor-quality water however.
Three of those are in Dublin – Sandymount Strand, Merrion Strand and Portrane Beach and the other two are Lilliput in Co. Westmeath and Clifden in Co. Galway.
Andy Fanning, from the EPA, says the high levels of bacteria found in the Westmeath location were of particular concern:
