The HSE has confirmed that the long-awaited modular unit to alleviate overcrowding at the region’s main hospital is on track to be completed by the deadline of June 2020.
The 60-bed unit, seen as key in tackling the persistently high numbers of patients left waiting on trolleys, commenced in March.
In a statement to Clare’s Independent TD Dr Michael Harty, the HSE says work is progressing well and it’s on track to be delivered by mid-2020.

However, Dr Harty is concerned that it will be the end of next year at the earliest before it’s fully functional and ready to admit its first patient.
