A West Clare Councillor is expressing serious concern over the impact of a feared €500 million HSE overspend on health services in the Midwest.
Figures show that at the end of May, the overrun was already at €170 million but with four by-elections nationwide by the end of the year, the Irish Examiner reports that could top out at half a billion euro.
This comes at a time when the hospital system in the Midwest is already under severe strain, with University Hospital Limerick regularly topping the INMO’s trolleywatch report.
