The Clare Chair of the IFA is calling for productive talks on the beef sector deadlock ahead of what he’s labelled the most uncertain winter for farmers in a lifetime.
Meat industry officials and the major farming groups will once again meet at the talks today, in a fresh attempt to strike a deal to prevent any further protests.
Two weeks of demonstrations by farmers nationwide led to temporary layoffs at a number of meat plants, including Kepak at Drumquin, near Ennis, before the action was suspended to allow for talks to take place.

While some concessions have been made, farmers still say they need movement on the price of their produce and Willie Hanrahan is calling for cool heads:
