Call For Focus On Rapid Building Of Social Housing

It’s claimed a focus on the rapid building of social housing is needed to resolve the housing crisis and not just looking at the rental market.

It follows a report compiled by Daft.ie which shows that the average cost of renting a home in Clare has risen to €858 per month in the past year, which is €100 more expensive than the June 2018 figure.

Nationally, the rate of inflation with rental prices is slowing, however that hasn’t been felt here yet.

Ennis Sinn Féin representative Tommy Guilfoyle, who is a member of the county’s housing committee, says the rising rents need to be addressed but he insists social housing is the key.
