Brexit Backlash Continues As Johnson Administration Dealt Another Blow

Ruth Davidson has resigned as leader of the Scottish Conservative Party.

Her decision comes as Boris Johnson’s move to suspend the British Parliament prompted a major backlash.

The voice of protestors there, who are among thousands demonstrating in the wake of a decision by the British Prime Minister to suspend Parliament for a month.

It means that MPs won’t sit for part of the run up to October’s Brexit deadline, which some claim is a move to halt efforts to prevent the UK from leaving the European Union without a deal.

There have been calls for an early recall of the Dáil to discuss the impact of what’s happening on Ireland but Clare’s Independent TD has dismissed this call as “premature”.

Dr Michael Harty has accused the British Prime Minister of playing a high risk strategy.

A former Clare Labour TD believes the British Government will proceed regardless of the views of Irish Government or the European Union.

Michael McNamara says it’s now a waiting game for everyone outside the UK.

With the British Parliament and Ms. Davidson stepping down, it looks like the backlash is set to continue with only 63 days until the October 31st deadline.
