The Cathaoirleach of the Shannon Municipal District has criticised national policy surrounding the provision of social housing, saying it’s taking far too long to bring homes on stream.
Gerry Flynn’s comments follow confirmation that construction is due to begin on 51 social houses in Shannon by the end of the year, with a 2021 completion date.
Speaking at a meeting of the Municipal District this week, Councillors said they believed there would be strong demand for the houses.

But Independent Councillor Gerry Flynn, who is also the Chair of the Council’s housing committee, says it’s taken too long to reach this stage.
