Sinn Féin is calling on the government to roll out an immediate nationwide three-year rent freeze, to help struggling homeowners stay in their homes.
It comes as the party’s Housing Spokesperson has addressed a meeting on the housing crisis in Ennis, as homeless figures continue to cause concern.
There are now 68 adults without a home in Clare, down five from the July figure, though it’s still a 325% increase on the 16 that were in that position just three years ago.
In addition, there are currently 141 homeless children across the Midwest region.
Deputy Eoin Ó Broin has been telling Clare FM’s James Mulhall that there’s no excuse for the government not to provide the funding to Clare County Council to tackle the relatively small number of homeless people here compared to elsewhere:
