A Clare disability rights campaigner is calling for cross-party support for a Dáil motion which aims to bring about a right for disabled people to a personal assistant service.
The motion calls on the Dáil to legislate for the establishment of a commissioner of independent living within the Department of Social Protection.
This would enable disabled people to direct the assistant to carry out tasks both inside and outside of the home, including personal care, shopping, support in the workplace or socialising.
Co-founder of PA services in Clare, Ann Marie Flanagan believes its an important first step in recgonising the fundamental rights of disabled people.
