Ireland’s Ambulance Service Branded “Not Fit For Purpose”

It’s claimed Ireland’s ambulance service is simply not fit for purpose.

It comes as it’s emerged that Clare-based paramedics had to undertake a 900km round-trip to Tipperary and Cork during a 12 hour shift over the weekend.

The situation came about when other crews, based in these counties, were held up at emergency departments.

SIPTU, the union representing these ambulance workers, has described it as absurd, while calling on the HSE and Minister for Health to take immediate steps to address the issue.

Independent Kilrush Councillor Ian Lynch has been telling Clare FM’s James Mulhall that it’s difficult not just for patients but also the staff.
