49 Patients on Trolleys At UHL

The region’s main hospital remains the busiest in the country, as the week begins.

But the latest INMO figures show the level of overcrowding at University Hospital Limerick has eased on last week’s record numbers, when 92 patients were left waiting for beds there on one day, the highest in history at any Irish hospital.

There were 49 patients on trolleys at the Dooradoyle facility this morning, 21 of those in the emergency department, with the remainder accommodated in overflow areas of wards.

The overall figure is 7 more than the next busiest facility and comes on a day when 521 patients have been left waiting for beds at hospitals across the country.
