Shock is being expressed in Kilrush after a historic building in the midst of a restoration project was vandalised, causing thousands of euro worth of damage.
Turret Lodge was broken into on Tuesday night, a fire was lit inside and windows, doors and walls were smashed.
Work has been underway on restoring the historic gate lodge house, which dates back to 1845, with funding of €240,000 granted through the Historic Towns Initiative.
