Around 1.2 million people are relying on state supports for all or part of their income.
The latest figures from the Department of Social Protection show nearly 600 thousand people are claiming the COVID-19 Unemployment Benefit.
Just under 15,000 of those are from Clare, with the figure rising by 100 in the past week.
