Swimming Ban Remains In Place At Clare Beaches

The advice to – not swim at some beaches in Clare – remains in place this Bank Holiday Monday

Clare County Council put in place an advisory note – warning people not to swim – on foot of consultations with the HSE, after increased levels of bacteria were found in fresh tests of the bathing waters at Lahinch.

It means that an advisory notice urging people not to go into the water – has been upgraded to a swimming prohibition.

Similar bans also remain in place at Spanish Point, White Strand Miltown Malbay, Kilkee, and at the front beach in Quilty.

The Council says – the elevated bacterial levels are as a result of heavy rainfall in the catchment area – which subsequently discharges into or near the bathing area.

There is ongoing monitoring at each location, and Clare County Council is in consultation with the HSE.
