Midwest Simon Predicts Surge In Homelessness In Coming Months

Midwest Simon is predicting a surge in homelessness in the region in the coming months, as a result of the lifting of the moratorium on evictions.

It comes as the latest figures from the Department of Housing show the number of homeless adults in Clare increased by 4 between May and June, to 62.

Its quarterly report also shows that 138 people, or 49% of all homeless people across the Midwest, were living in emergency accommodation in hotels, hostels or B&Bs for more than 6 months.

More than 100 people exited homelessness in Clare and Limerick in the first half of this year, but Head of Operations with Midwest Simon, Elisha Fahy says more innovative ways will be needed in the months ahead to tackle homelessness.
