Mayor Of Clare Says Oireachtas Members Should Be “Kicking And Screaming” For Heritage Funding

The Mayor of Clare says the county’s Oireachtas members should be “shouting a little bit louder” to attempt to keep its heritage sites open.

Shannon Group has confirmed that it’s seeking a total of €6.4 million from government to allow it keep Bunratty and King John’s Castles open until next June.

A decision is expected from the Department of Public Expenditure within days, but the Group is warning that the sites will close without funding, putting the future of 60 full-time staff in doubt.

Councillor Mary Howard says Clare’s Oireachtas members need to start “kicking and screaming” to ensure funding is delivered.
