The two most recent champions of the Clare Senior Hurling Championship have qualified for this year’s Semi-Finals.
In a double header at Cusack Park today, Sixmilebridge first overcame Broadford on a scoreline of 0-21 to 0-12.
Last year’s Intermediate Champions kept the reigning senior champions honest in the opening quarter, before Sixmilebridge pulled away in the minutes before half-time, taking a five-point lead into half-time.
They maintained that pressure in the second half, with seven points from top-scoring Alex Morey – all from frees – partly the difference as the Bridge booked their place in the last four.
The second game was a tighter affair, with Kilmaley starting strongly against Ballyea, building up a three-point lead early on. They were also first to find the net, with Daire Keane netting in the build-up to half-time.
However, just before the break, Morgan Garry netted for Ballyea and it was they who led at half-time, 1-09 to 1-07.
Kilmaley were able to level matters at 1-11 apiece after 37 minutes, but from there on Ballyea were the better team, scoring nine of the game’s last twelve points, and winning 1-20 to 1-14.
