Ryanair’s Decision To Close Shannon And Cork Bases To Be Prioritised By Transport Committee

The decision of Ryanair to close its bases at Shannon and Cork Airports and the concerns around the EU traffic light system for air travel are among the priorities for the Transport and Communications Networks Committees when it meets over the coming days.

The committee is holding a series of public hearings from today, as it it seeks to intensify its work to address the Aviation crisis.

It will hear from a number of representatives from the industry, including from Shannon Group, the Irish Aviation Authority, daa, Ryanair and Aer Lingus.

The IAA will tell the Committee today that the Irish economy needs people back flying more than any other country in Europe, but air traffic here has been slowest to recover.

It’s warning that without an “urgent” intervention to reduce quarantine periods, the sector here faces terminal decline.
