Enforcement Powers Extension Gives Fresh Hope Of Pubs Re-Opening Sooner – Clare VFI

The Chair of Clare VFI has welcomed the extension of Garda Enforcement powers to close pubs or restaurants, saying it gives confidence that some level of trading will be able to recommence sooner.

Under current rules and restrictions, Gardaí can close licenced premises, where the health regulations are not being followed, for up to 30 days, depending on the offence.

Under current legislation those powers could expire next week, so Justice Minister Helen McEntee is seeking cabinet approval today for the powers to be extended until June.

Ennis Publican, Darragh McAllister has been telling Clare FM’s Fiona Cahill that he believes the extension should allow for a faster re-opening.
