Cranny Ceremony To Honour Clare Man Killed On Bloody Sunday

The Clare victims of Bloody Sunday will be remembered 100 years on from their deaths this weekend.

On the 21st of November 1920, Michael Collins ordered IRA members to assassinate 14 British intelligence officers and policemen.

In retaliation, that afternoon British forces opened fire at a GAA match at Croke Park, killing 14 and injuring over 60.

That evening two Clare men, Peadair Clancy from Cranny and Quin man Conor Clune, were among three people to be beaten and shot dead at Dublin castle by their British captors who claimed they were trying to escape.

Peadar’s grand-nephew Pat Shannon is hopeful that the local community in his native Cranny will honour those who lost their lives this weekend, in line with public health guidelines.
