Clare’s Fine Gael TD says he’s hopeful flood prevention works in Spanish Point can begin early in the new year.
The €225,000 grant, provided for under the Minor Flood Mitigation Works and Coastal Protection Scheme, will be used to protect the area’s cliff face and the corresponding car park and access road.
A request for funding for coastal protection works at Spanish Point was submitted by Clare County Council in 2018, with rock armour now set to be constructed over the 75 metre cliff.

Clarecastle-based Deputy Joe Carey believes the work is long overdue.
