The UL Hospitals Group has confirmed it has approved a move to effectively double its medical assessment unit services at Ennis General Hospital from this time last year.
The MAU will now expand from 156 to 204 slots per week, with a recruitment process for a number of positions, including a radiographer and a medical scientist, already underway.
The unit provides assessment, diagnosis and treatment to patients with medical conditions such as COPD and pneumonia, with around 10% of cases requiring admissions to hospital.

Clare Independent TD Michael McNamara, who received confirmation of the move from the Group, says the service is an alternative to the A & E department at University Hospital Limerick.
