Clare GP Warns It Will Take Longer To Bring Covid Case Numbers Down

A Clare GP is warning that it could take “a lot longer” to reduce the number of COVID cases than it did during the first wave of the pandemic.

Over 1,600 cases of covid-19 have been confirmed in Clare in the past two weeks, which means that more cases have been confirmed over the past fortnight than in the first eight months of the pandemic combined.

The rise in figures is in line with the national trend.

There’s also been an increase in the number of Covid-19 cases associated with the more infectious UK strain, while three cases of the South African variant have been confirmed here.

Shannon GP Dr Yvonne Williams has been telling Clare FM’s Fiona Cahill that because of this, she believes it will take longer to get to a safe level than before the summer.
