The Communications Minister has described the possibility of keeping Broadford post office open for business as ‘a real challenge’.
The existing contract holder for the facility is stepping down from the role, and there’s now widespread concern in the area that An Post is not going to advertise for a replacement postmaster for the village.
It’s understood that the postal body has met with local representatives in recent days in efforts to come to a solution for the impasse.

Responding to questioning from Clare Fianna Fail TD Cathal Crowe, Communications Minister and Green Party Leader Eamon Ryan says he very much regrets the post office in Broadford may now face permanent closure.
