Mother Of Clare Girl Killed In Crash Calls For Greater Careless Driving Penalties

The mother of a 3-year-old girl who was killed in an incident caused by careless driving is calling for harsher penalties for the crime.

Estlin Wall lost her life and her father Vincent sustained serious injuries following a crash on the N85 between Inagh and Ennistymon in March 2017.

The Court of Appeal last week ruled that the penalty imposed – two separate fines of €750 each – imposed on 64-year-old Senan O Flaherty, of Lower Gowerhass, Cooraclare who caused the crash, was too lenient and handed down a sixteen month suspended prison sentence.

Estlin’s mother Amy is calling for more consistency in sentencing for similar crimes in the future.
