Grieving Family Calls For Harsher Penalties For Careless Driving

The mother of a 3-year-old girl who was killed in an incident caused by careless driving in 2017, is calling for harsher penalties for the crime.

Estlin Wall lost her life and her father Vincent sustained serious injuries following a crash on the N85 between Inagh and Ennistymon in March 2017.

Last week, the Court of Appeal ruled that the penalty imposed on 64-year-old Senan O Flaherty, of Cooraclare, who caused the crash, was too lenient.

The judge handed down a sixteen month suspended prison sentence as an addition to the previous two €750 fines that Mr. O’Flaherty has already paid.

On Thursday’s Morning Focus, Gavin Grace spoke to Estlin’s mother, Amy Dutil-Wall, about her call for tougher punishments for careless driving.
