Clare County Council says its position with regard to works on Parnell Street currently remains unchanged.
Minister Darragh O’Brien made contact with the local authority to express his support for the works to continue, even though the Council felt it did not meet the criteria for “essential” construction that is allowed at this time.
Business representative groups are hoping for the works progressed quickly so that disruption is limited to the period when there are fewer shoppers on the streets, but the council says it will provide an update in the event of any communications with its Chief Executive.
