The Head of Clare’s Roads Policing Unit has expressed confidence that adequate resources are in place to tackle drink driving in the county.
There have been 1,187 drink driving convictions here over the past decade, with nearly three quarters of those recorded at Ennis District Court.
The number of convictions have been steadily falling on an annual basis, with only 64 in 2020, down from 240 ten years previous, representing a 75% drop over the course of the decade.

Inspector Paul Slattery of the Clare Roads Policing Unit has been telling Clare FM’s Fiona Cahill that he hopes that there will be an ongoing reduction in the number of convictions here.
