East Clare still has the lowest prevalence of COVID-19 in the country.

While all other areas of the county have seen its incidence rates drop in the past week, there has been a slight increase in cases in the Shannon area.

Just 7 new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed in the Killaloe electoral area between the 2nd of February and this past Monday, the 15th – its incidence rate is now just 34.8 per 100,000 people.

The prevalence of the disease is also continuing to fall in North Clare, with 10 cases in Ennistymon’s electoral boundary in the same 14 day period seeing its rate stand at 60.9.

Official statistics show the rate of the virus in West Clare remains unchanged.

The Ennis area has seen its COVID-19 incidence drop by around 20 percent on this time last week – 64 new cases in the region see it now stand at 207.1.

63 cases were confirmed in the Shannon electoral area in those 14 days – compared to 60 this time last week – and its prevalence is now broadly similar at 207.3.

While all areas of Clare have virus rates well below the national average, 16 new cases here last night mean this county now has the seventh highest incidence rate in the country, having been in the bottom four for the majority of 2021 so far.
