Community members in Miltown Malbay have expressed concern that works being carried out on water mains in the area fall short of what’s required.
Works on replacing nearly 5km of water mains is due to be completed in June, but a section of the old main between Mullagh Cross and the Coore treatment plant will remain intact, prompting concern from locals that ongoing issues with outages will continue.
There was a burst on this section of the mains this past weekend.

Once the works are complete, Irish Water says it will continue the county’s water mains system, to see where further works are needed, but this will be contingent on funding.
Miltown businessman Sean Malone fears that problems will continue after the works are done.
