Clare’s Sinn Fein TD is calling for the State to provide a 24/7 mental health care service in the community.
It follows concerns raised in this county and elsewhere about a surge in mental health capacity since the onset of the pandemic.
The World Health Organisation recommends that countries set aside a minimum of 14 percent of their health budget to mental health supports – but in Ireland it’s less than half of that.

Kilrush-based Deputy Violet-Anne Wynne says the current system is not fit for purpose, particularly for those who live in isolated rural areas in counties such as Clare.
