The HSE is being called on to outline a clear timeline for the construction of a new facility to replace St Joseph’s Hospital.
It follows the publication of a HIQA report, which detailed how an inspection carried out in March found that some residents “went a period of months” without a shower due to efforts to contain a COVID-19 spread at the Ennis facility.
The HSE has apologised to residents and their families and has today confirmed that an inquiry it has commissioned into practices there is being carried out on an independent basis.
A site has been acquired by the HSE for a new premises to replace the old facility, next St Flannan’s in Ennis and Senator Martin Conway, who’s his party’s Seanad Spokesperson on Health says clarity is needed on the timeline for completion.
