“Lessons Will Have To Be Learned” From HSE Cyber Attack And Covid Pandemic

A North Clare GP insists that lessons will have to be learned from both the HSE cyber attack and the Covid-19 pandemic.

The latest figures from the National Treatment Purchase Fund show more than 41,000 people were waiting for outpatient services at University Hospital Limerick last month, a 9 per cent reduction on March’s figure.

But the figures are still significantly higher than at the beginning of the pandemic and are likely to be impacted this month by the ongoing cancellation of services following the HSE cyber attack.

Lahinch GP and member of the IMO’s GP Committee, Dr Michael Kelleher says there will have to be a combination of both investment and systematic change within the health service to bring waiting lists down.
